Victorian Dairy Farmers view simple ways to save energy
Electricity accounts for a significant proportion of a dairy farm’s shed cost. Dairy farmers are constantly under pressure from the rising cost of electricity and an increased focus on carbon emissions.
Real opportunities were identified for dairy farmers to better control their energy costs while simultaneously reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Dairy Australia acquired $1 million in Australian Government funding to deliver the project ‘Smarter energy use on Australian dairy farms’, aimed at helping dairy farmers use energy more efficiently. This project has given 900 dairy farmers across Australia access to personalised on-farm energy assessments, workshops and information resources.
In producing a series of five short videos WestVic Dairy, with the support of Sustainability Victoria and Dairy Australia, aim to present tips, technologies and ideas for reducing energy use in the dairy. The main focus is on improvements that are relatively low cost, have short payback periods and can be implemented in most dairies.
Please be sure to complete the survey at the end of the video. This will help guide our analysis of this project, and hear your thoughts on the implementation of such energy saving ideas.
